The aerodynamic features of motor vehicles mainly affect two aspects: operating costs related to the drag force of the vehicle (Cx coefficient) and traction properties. The simulation tests carried out made it possible to modify body elements in order to improve the aerodynamic downforce of the rear axle of the vehicle and to evaluate the range of rear spoiler settings from the point of view of its usefulness. The research problem was the analysis of the aerodynamic features of the BMW E46 325i vehicle, based on CFD numerical analyses and the design of an active spoiler. The body of the vehicle was digitized on the basis of a point cloud using the Smarttech3D Universe optical scanner and the SpaceClaim program from the ANSYS package. Numerical calculations were carried out in the vehicle speed range of 50-245 [km/h]. Air streams flowing around the body of the vehicle were analysed. The dynamically designed rear spoiler has three positions relative to the boot lid: 0°, 10° and 20°. The analysed range of speeds and spoiler angles allowed to determine the aerodynamic downforce and the active spoiler control map, i.e. the extension of the positioning mechanism and setting the angle of the system relative to the plane of the trunk depending on the speed of the vehicle. The aerodynamic downforce ranged from 0.5 to 321 [N]. Based on the data obtained, it was found that the factory body geometry provides aerodynamic downforce of 3 to 93 [N], the use of a spoiler increases this value from 12 to 228 [N], with a decrease in the Cx coefficient from 1 to 3 [%]. The beneficial effect of using a spoiler is registered above the speed of 50 [km/h], and the optimum angle of attack of the spoiler is 10°.
Cechy aerodynamiczne pojazdów samochodowych wpływają głównie na dwa aspekty: koszty eksploatacji związane z siłą oporu powietrza (współczynnik Cx) i właściwości trakcyjne. Przeprowadzone testy symulacyjne umożliwiły modyfikację elementów nadwozia w celu poprawy siły docisku aerodynamicznego tylnej osi pojazdu oraz ocenę zakresu ustawień tylnego spoilera pod kątem ich użyteczności. Problem badawczy stanowiła analiza właściwości aerodynamicznych samochodu BMW E46 325i na podstawie analiz numerycznych CFD i projekt aktywnego spoilera. Nadwozie pojazdu zostało zdigitalizowane na podstawie chmury punktów przy użyciu optycznego skanera Smarttech3D Universe oraz programu SpaceClaim z pakietu ANSYS. Obliczenia numeryczne przeprowadzono w zakresie prędkości pojazdu od 50 do 245 km/h, analizując przepływ strug powietrza wokół karoserii. Dynamicznie zaprojektowany tylny spoiler posiada trzy pozycje względem pokrywy bagażnika: 0°, 10° i 20°. Analizowany zakres prędkości i kątów nachylenia spoilera pozwolił określić wartości docisku aerodynamicznego oraz opracować mapę sterowania aktywnym spoilerem, obejmującą wysuw mechanizmu pozycjonującego i ustawienie kąta systemu względem płaszczyzny bagażnika w zależności od prędkości pojazdu. Uzyskana siła docisku aerodynamicznego mieściła się w zakresie od 0,5 do 321 N. Na podstawie uzyskanych danych stwierdzono, że fabryczna geometria nadwozia generuje docisk aerodynamiczny od 3 do 93 N, natomiast zastosowanie spoilera zwiększa tę wartość do 12-228 N, przy jednoczesnym spadku współczynnika oporu Cx o 1-3%. Korzystny wpływ spoilera odnotowano przy prędkościach powyżej 50 km/h, a optymalny kąt jego nachylenia określono na 10°.
